Welcome to Summer
Guess what, it is almost Summer, at least I think it is. The weather has certainly been different this year as we usually have some hot weekend events to work on. Maybe we will get through Vette-O-Rama XXXVIII on June 14th without it being too hot.
We have had some great runs in the last 60 days that I want to comment on. We did two wine runs in April, the first one to the Livermore area sponsored by the Valentis & Kennedys and with our final stop at Tim and Sue Kennedy's Home. The second one, to Lodi to visit the largest wine producer in the world, Woodbridge, at least that is what they said, with dinner in Lodi. That run was done by Sandy & Al Nevares and Linda & Myron Rulofson. They were both excellent tours with my thanks to our members that put on the events. Our most special May event which will now be know as the Bob Petty Memorial Run to Occidental, was a huge success. We had 23 Corvettes on this run with "NO" support vehicles. I took my 93 40th Anniversary ZR1, you know the one that no one ever gets to see on the road.
We have had our first car show of the season on May 4th at Good Chevrolet in Alameda. We had many of our people do very well and we took the Club Participation Award with at least 13 Corvettes. I could swear I saw some people that I do not know go up and get an award announced as DVC but they must be new to the club.
The Run to the Lake into Lakeport for two and a half days of nothing but Corvette activities was great! However, I want you to know that not only did it rain on my 50th Anniversary Corvette and I had to drive in the rain, but it happened twice. It took me three days to recover from the trauma. It is a good thing that I have the lift in my garage so I could immediately remove the "foul" storm leavings. For those of you that did not attend the event, and I think we had close to 50 people go, I will give you a rundown on what we did. On Saturday morning we did a parade down main street Lakeport with at least 80 Corvettes where we made noise and threw candy to the kids. Saturday afternoon was a poker and wine run that some people did ending with a challenging road course to arrive for dinner at the country club on route 175. Sunday, we did the car show and again took the Club Participation Award with 12 Corvettes and some special awards. After the car show, we did our own BBQ at lakeside at the Skylark Motel in spite of the rain. It actually cleared up and we had a great dinner. My thanks to all of those that helped get the items and food needed to put on the BBQ to Lakeport as well as prepare everything. Monday, most everyone was on their own to return home. I am sure that if you talk to any of the Club Members that attended, you will get stories that you will want to be part of next year. Get your reservation in for next year as soon as possible.
Vette-O-Rama is coming up in less than two weeks. I have almost all of the activities coordinated to make this one of the best car shows that we have put on completed. Need a few more volunteers as well as more raffle prizes. All of the awards are ordered and we are stuffing goody bags this week. We are prepared for hopefully over 100 Corvettes at the show. Again, my thanks to all of those that helped get their piece of the car show completed in time.
We have more fun events lined up for the Summer, so come out and join us for activities that compliment that wonderful car that you drive, the Corvette.
THAT IS ALL FOR NOW!
And that is the way it is in June 2008
